Japanese photo exhibit at ANA Tokyo

” ‘Serenity’ can have very personal interpretations”, says Caroline Trausch, the curator of the ANA Intercontinental Tokyo’s
latest photography exhibition. For this show, she says, “the interpretation is exclusively Japanese” but the experience for visitors is
“truly universal.”
The Tokyo hotel has used its grand interiors before to support and promote Japan’s creativity, and Trausch’s choice of four
Japanese photographers, represented by the Emon Photo Gallery, makes no exception in showcasing domestic talent.
Ryo Ohwada’s 100-year-old bonsai trees, set to dusky gold backgrounds, are painterly and majestically peaceful,
while Kiiro’s twinkling cosmos flowers have a magical, dreamly quality. Eriko Koga offers a more literal interpretation
with photographs taken on several trips to the sacred Mount Koya,
and Sarah Fujiwara’s close-ups of lotus plants are unusually calming in their abstractness.
Wheter through culture, nature of spirituality, this show proposes that attaining “serenity” is a journey for everyone.
The photographs are being displayed across three floors of the hotel and are free to view.
For more information on the exhibits, or purchase any of the works, visit the front desk of the hotel.

The ANA InterContinetal Tokyo is a 5-minute walk from Tameike Sanno Station (Ginza and Nanboku lines).
